In an upset result Ukraine’s women tennis players have defeated Australia in a Fed Cup tie. The win gives Ukraine the right to remain in the elite Fed Cup World Group and relegates Australia to the lower tier World Group II.
Scores were level after the first two singles matches played at Glen Iris Valley Recreation Club in Mt. Waverley, Melbourne on Saturday 16 April 2011, and were level again after the two reverse singles rubbers on Sunday. This meant the outcome would be decided in the final doubles match.
After comprehensively losing the first set the Ukrainian pair of tennis players, Olga Savchuk and Lesia Tsurenko battled back in the deciding doubles match to win the match and the tie with a 0-6 7-6 (7-3) 6-3 victory.
