The Ukrainian community gathered around Australia on 9-11 June to condemn Russia’s terrorism in blowing up the Nova Kakhovka Dam last week, creating a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe.
from Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth, Sydney
At the rallies Ukrainians spoke about losing their childhood homes to flooding in Kherson. Others were desperately worried about family and friends in occupied territories like Oleshky, who had told them Russian occupiers had taken lifeboats and were making no efforts to help people.
Only Russia had the means, motive and opportunity to wreak this havoc. Ukraine warned the world last year about the mining of the dam.
And now, the long-suffering Ukrainian people have to deal with not only a brutal and illegal Russian invasion, but Russian ecocide and a humanitarian disaster. All while Russian forces continue to shell the Kherson region.
At all rallies, there was unanimity that Russia must be defeated. Ukraine needed to win for global security and safety.
As the counter-offensive begins, the AFUO urges the Australian government to help Ukraine by providing more Bushmasters, Hawkeis and other military aid.
DONATE NOW to the AFUO’s Ukraine Crisis Appeal to provide humanitarian aid to the victims of the dam explosion.
