AFUO’s Defend Ukraine Appeal (DUA) speaks to Viktor “Blacksmith” about his time in Australia and the current state of the frontline in Ukraine.
Viktor is a 29 year old Ukrainian defender, a blacksmith by trade, who recently lost both of his legs during heavy russian artillery fire. Through the work of Atlas Global Aid and many donors, Viktor was able to undergo osteointegration surgery in Sydney – a procedure whereby implants were inserted into his bone, providing a secure and stable socket for new prosthetic legs.
The AFUO’s Future Ukraine 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐢𝐧: 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐩 𝐚 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐤 𝐎𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 campaign has joined Atlas Global Aid to raise the $100,000 required to cover the costs of Viktor’s two new prosthetic legs.

Speaking with DUA, Viktor describes his time in Australia with the diaspora, the nurses, doctors and others with gratitude. He says Australia is a very welcoming and progressive country.
Turning to the situation on the frontline, he says a lot of help is needed. He emphasises the no. 1 crucial assistance received is from drones. “It really helps in the fight against the enemy.”
