The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations’ (AFUO) Displaced Persons (DP) survey report has been finalised, providing our community as well as the Australian Government with critical data about displaced Ukrainians in Australia
The survey results show that this is a cohort of motivated, industrious and educated people with the skills that Australia needs, who would make an immediate and strong contribution to Australia’s multicultural and economic prosperity.
However, the report has identified key problems with the upcoming expiration of the 786 visa, recommended pathways to permanent residency not being fit for purpose, and challenges for tertiary age students.
The report recommends the Australian Government develop a dedicated pathway for permanent residency for displaced Ukrainians, with an immediate extension of the soon-to-expire 786 visa.
The report is an important document in the AFUO’s advocacy efforts to secure visa certainty for displaced Ukrainians, and has been well received in the latest round of AFUO consultations with Government, MPs and departmental officials.
🙏🏻 Again, we thank the 1,949 displaced Ukrainias (collectively responsible for 1,170 dependents) who responded to the survey. We know that the ‘visa limbo’ you have been experiencing has been very stressful.
We will provide another update soon.
