The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) continues to call on Tennis Australia (TA) to ban Srdjan Djokovic from attending Rod Laver Arena for the Australian Open (AO) Men’s Final.
Both Srdjan and Novak Djokovic have offered feeble and inadequate excuses for Srdjan standing with Z-clad men bearing a Russian flag emblazoned with Putin’s face. In the video of the incident, one of the men sends greetings to our ‘brothers in Moscow’ and Srdjan is heard saying “Long live Russia”.
Stefan Romaniw OAM, AFUO Co-Chair said today, “You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time. Srdjan has clearly violated the rules and procedures laid out by TA banning Russian flags and symbols at the AO.
“Srdjan should be banned from attending any further matches played at the AO – including the Men’s Final being played by his son Novak Djokovic.
“TA needs to make a call to maintain the integrity of the tournament. The actions of Srdjan have brought the tournament into disrepute. The AO should not be used as a platform for promoting the acceptance and esteem of Russia.
“Does TA really think that images of Srdjan sitting in an accredited box at the Rod Laver Arena during the Men’s Final are the global message they want to send about Australian tennis?
“Australian sporting events should not be used to whitewash invasion and genocide,” he said.
