Viktor is a 29 year old Ukrainian defender who recently lost both legs as a result of heavy russian artillery fire in Chasiv Yar. His injuries meant that he would struggle to use traditional socket prostheses, and could have become wheel-chair bound.
On hearing of his ordeal, Viktor was contacted by Jack Frye, the head of Atlas Global Aid, a US-based charity organisation. Jack’s own brother, Jesse, was an amputee, who took the decision seven years to undergo a procedure known as osseointegration. This procedure allows for a prosthetic implant to be connected into the remaining bone of an amputee, to which an external prosthesis can attach directly. On hearing how Jack’s brother had benefited, Viktor knew that he wanted that same chance.
With the support of Jack and Atlas Global Aid, Viktor came to Australia for the highly specialised surgical procedure to anchor two metal rods into his bones. He is now ready to be fitted for his new prosthetic legs.
Your help is urgently needed. The prosthetic application and rehabilitation is costly, and additional funds are required to buy the two prosthetic legs which will give Viktor his chance to walk again.
The AFUO’s Future Ukraine fund gives you the opportunity to help Viktor, who is determined to not only walk again, but to return to the frontline to protect his homeland.
Our goal is to raise $50,000 the cost of one of Viktor’s prosthetic legs. Atlas Global Aid International will appeal to international donors to raise the funds for the second prosthetic leg.
