The Ukraine Crisis Appeal, set up by the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations in 2015 to provide emergency and humanitarian aid to those devastated by Russia’s war in Ukraine, is thrilled to be one of the beneficiaries of the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery Midwinter Ball Charity Auction.
Back after a two year hiatus, the Midwinter Ball Charity Auction offers bidders the chance to win a range of unique experiences with Australia’s highest-profile Federal Parliamentarians – all in the name of charity.
Auction items include a game of tennis or pool at the Lodge with PM Anthony Albanese, dinner with the Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong and Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek, a night of cricket with Opposition Leader Peter Dutton at a Brisbane Heat Big Bash League match, or an NRL experience with Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers watching the Brisbane Broncos.
AFUO Co-Chair Stefan Romaniw OAM warmly welcomed the inclusion of the Ukraine Crisis Appeal on the list of deserving charities. “The Ball is a great initiative to raise funds for charities which help struggling people such as Rural Aid Australia, OzHarvest Australia and Pink Elephants (supporting families through miscarriage),” he said.
“We are grateful that funds raised can also go towards the Ukraine Crisis Appeal to provide much needed aid to Ukrainians impacted by Russia’s invasion, including the thousands who have come to Australia as displaced people.
“To date, we have raised over $6.5 million from the generous donations of ordinary Australians, the Ukrainian-Australian community, corporate Australia and the Queensland, Western Australia and South Australian state governments. But there’s more to be done – so this injection of funds will be vital,” he added.
Press Gallery President David Crowe welcomed the generosity of Parliamentarians who are supporting this year’s auction. “The Ball has been a great success over 20 years in raising over $4.4 million for charity and it has done this by being an event for all sides of politics in Parliament House,” he said.
The auction went live on 5pm Sunday 28 August and will close on 5pm Wednesday 7 September. The ball begins at 7pm on September 7.
