The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations warmly welcomes First Lieutenant Oleh Hukovskyy, a military psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), to Australia.
Oleh is head of the Combat Stress Control Group in the 67th Separate Mechanised Brigade. He is in Australia at the invitation of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) to attend the 64th Annual Conference of the International Military Testing Association conference.
Post-conference, he will meet with members of the Australian Defence College, Australian Defence Force Academy, ADF Joint Health Command and ADF Joint Operations Command.
Oleh’s expertise in helping Ukrainian defenders on the frontline deal with exhaustion and combat stress is well known. He is the lead author of an article in the highly prestigious US Army War College publication about sustaining mental readiness in Ukrainian soldiers.
As a psychotherapist, Oleh volunteered during the Maidan Revolution of Dignity in 2014 to help people traumatised by the pro-russian government’s crackdown on peaceful protesters.
Thank you Oleh for your important work in helping to build the resilience and mental health of Ukrainian defenders. We know that your insights – borne of hard-lived reality – will be highly valuable during your meetings in Australia with your peers and ADF doctors and personnel.
