June 1st marked International Day for the Protection of Children. Answering the call from the Ukrainian World Congress – Свiтовий Конґрес Українців, Australian-Ukrainian children attended flashmobs with their peers, calling for the skies to be closed over Ukraine to save Ukrainian children.
According to official UN data, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, approximately 600 children have been killed and 1350 have been injured due to Russian attacks.
“The International Day for the Protection of Children focuses on the need to honour children’s right to survival, development, protection and participation in family life. Russia has robbed Ukrainian children of this opportunity. Air raid sirens are a daily occurrence. Schooling is undertaken in bunkers. Families have been divided, as fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters have joined the war effort and gone to the front line,’ Stefan Romaniw OAM, co-chair of the AFUO.
Thank you to our wonderful children, parents, and facilitators who rallied together to spread awareness & unite for Ukraine.
Your actions can save hundreds of lives and secure a peaceful future for Ukrainian children.
Don’t stand aside – protect the Ukrainian sky, save Ukrainian children!
