The AFUO has been delighted to hear from many businesses and individuals who have made submissions to the current parliamentary inquiry examining Australia’s support for Ukraine.
Submissions close this Friday, so if you are still writing or are interested in putting a few points together for the Committee’s consideration, here are some points to keep in mind:
- Quality over quantity. There is no page limit — and just one page is fine, too. High quality submissions are accurate, clear, specific, thoughtful, and persuasive. You do not need to address all Terms of Reference, just the aspects that appeal to you or where you have an informed view.
- Reflect on the type of support given — be it humanitarian, military, legal, diplomatic, financial — and whether you think it has been adequate in size and ambition to meet Ukraine’s needs. What should the Government do differently to ensure support is timely and well-coordinated?
- Recommendations aren’t essential, but they can help the Committee in their process. What is the low-hanging fruit? Where should the Government double down? What new thinking or initiatives would you like to see from the Government? What has been missing so far?
Your views will help inform the Committee’s work and give us a shot at making sure future Government support for Ukraine is timely, comprehensive and well-coordinated.
