Former British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, met members of the Ukrainian Council of NSW today, paying tribute to the ‘utterly heroic’ Ukrainian people and urging the international community to give Ukraine ‘the tools it needs to finish the job’.
Boris was in Australia to attend a conference and had asked to meet with members of the local Ukrainian community. Following an introduction from the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations, the Ukrainian Council of NSW organised a small gathering, greeting Boris with bread and salt, and a bouquet of flowers, the national flower of Ukraine.
Johnson lauded the Ukrainian people for ‘fighting not just for Ukraine, but for freedom everywhere.’
He stressed the international community needed to have ‘strategic patience’ and to ‘give Ukraine what it needed’. He was convinced Ukraine would be victorious.
Thank you Boris Johnson for your leadership and your advocacy for international co-operation in defeating russian aggression.
And thank you for speaking via mobile phone with members of the 22nd Separate Mechanised Brigade defending Bakhmut, which has been assisted by the AFUO’s Defend Ukraine Appeal. The brigade members were in tears of disbelief and joy!
Channel 7 News were there too – we’ll post the clip in our AFUO Newsroom as soon as it becomes available!
