Around the country, the Ukrainian-Australian community has remembered and honoured the life of Stefan Romaniw OAM.
💔 In Melbourne, the Association of Ukrainians in Victoria held a remembrance night on Friday 28 June, where stories were shared about Stefan, Ukrainian Catholic & Ukrainian Orthodox priests said special prayers, and everyone joined together to sing ‘Ніч Вже Йде’.
On Thursday night 4 July, a panakhyda (memorial service) was held in the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of Ss Peter & Paul and attended by more than 600 people, with 100 participating online.
💔 In Adelaide, the Association of Ukrainians in South Australia (AUSA) paid their respects to Stefan on Friday 28 June and Friday 5 July in their Kozak clubroom. The AUSA management committee will hold a special “remembrance” discussion about how to maintain his legacy.
💔 In Canberra, Friends of Ukraine Canberra-Queanbeyan remembered Stefan at their rally on Saturday 29 June. The Ambassador attended and spoke; Fr Michael led the prayers. Flags were lowered and a minute’s silence was observed, followed by singing Vichnaya Pamyat.
💔 In Perth, the Ukrainian Association of Western Australia organised a panakhyda on Sunday 30 June at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Maylands.
💔 In Sydney, CYM Sydney invited all to attend a panakhyda at the St Andrew’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Lidcombe on Sunday 7 July. Over 350 people attended, with CYM-ivsti forming a guard of honour for Stefan.
💔 In Brisbane, the Ukrainian Community of Queensland organised a panakhyda on Sunday 7 July, and gathered in the church hall after the service.
