The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) has thanked Prime Minister Albanese for announcing additional sanctions against Russia, but has warned that this will not be enough to ‘slow Russia’s war machine’.
“In the latest attack on Kyiv, Russia has used cruise missiles, drones and six Kinzhal hypersonic missiles. This has followed mass attacks around the country over the last few days and weeks. While sanctions are important, we need to do more to stop bombs and missiles raining down on innocent civilians and critical infrastructure,” said AFUO Co-Chairs, Stefan Romaniw and Kateryna Argyrou.
“We know that the Ukrainian Government has asked Australia to provide more protected vehicles like the Hawkeis.
“We also know that Australia is no longer the biggest non-NATO contributor to Ukraine – Japan and Sweden have now donated more than Australia.
“It’s time for the Government to urgently review how it can step up and ensure the steady, consistent military support Ukraine needs to be able to defend itself and our common values.
“This is not the time to succumb to war fatigue. It is imperative for global security, peace and justice that Ukraine prevails,” they added.
