Earlier in the month, our hard-working Co-Chairs Stefan Romaniw and Kateryna Argyrou met with key ministers, parliamentarians and senior staffers in Canberra.
They discussed:
- the upcoming Holodomor commemorations and asked MPs to support a motion to acknowledge the Holodomor as genocide
- community concerns related to humanitarian visas and required support
- the AFUO’s grass roots effort to support Ukrainian defenders
- provided feedback from the frontline and Stefan’s recent visit to Ukraine
- advocated for more Australian government military aid for Ukraine
Meetings were held with Mark Dreyfus MP KC; Senator Catryna Bilyk (Chair of the Australia Ukraine Parliamentary Friendship Group – AUPFG); Steve Georganas MP; Senator Linda Reynolds (Co-Chair of the AUPFG); Andrew Hastie MP Shadow Minister for Defence; Katherine Molyneux & Dr Anna Oldmeadow from DFAT; Georgia Tkachuk, Senior Adviser to the Prime Minister; and Hannah White, Adviser to the Minister for Defence.
As the voice for Ukrainian-Australians, the AFUO will continue to let the Government know what is important to our community and will never stop advocating for support for Ukraine!
