Horrific videos circulating online showing the beheading of a Ukrainian prisoner of war, and mutilated bodies of other Ukrainian prisoners of war, have confirmed the importance of Australia accepting an invitation to attend the July NATO summit and doing all it can with like-minded countries to defeat Russian terrorism and barbarism.
“We understand that the PM Anthony Albanese will not be attending the upcoming NATO summit. However, we think Australia should remain at the table to reinforce its strategic commitment to the rules-based global system, our democratic allies, and the fight against unjustified and harrowing aggression,” said Mr Stefan Romaniw OAM and Ms Kateryna Argyrou, Co-Chairs of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO).
“These sickening videos show why Ukraine must win. Now is the time for countries like Australia to give Ukraine the consistent and speedy delivery of military equipment needed to end this vicious and savage war.
“We also call upon Australia to support kicking Russia off the United Nations Security Council. How is it possible that Russia – an aggressor and state sponsor of the type of terrorist acts seen in these videos – can be the President of the Security Council, responsible for maintaining international peace and security?
“We agree with Ukraine’s Foreign Affairs Minister – Russia is worse than ISIS.
“Russia must be held accountable for its crimes,” they added.
