The AFUO extends our sincerest thank you and congratulations to all Ukrainian-Australian community organisations, coordinating committees and attendees for an incredible week of Independence Day celebrations to mark 33 years of Ukraine’s Independence on the 24th of August.
We salute the fortitude and creativity of our hromady, organising an array of events all over the country to celebrate our culture, our independence and to raise funds to support the brave defenders and people of Ukraine. The resilience and pride of our diaspora community is a testament to the Ukrainian spirit; whether you were born in Australia, moved here decades ago or are a recently arrived displaced Ukrainian-Australian due to russia’s war, you are an integral part of our community.
10 years on from russia’s war, two and a half years on from the full-scale russian invasion, the light of Ukraine’s resistance prevails. We must continue to hold strong, to donate, write to our politicians and remain united. Love will win over evil because we are not united by fear or coercion, but by our shared history, commitment, values and future.
Slava Ukraini! Heroyam Slava!
Here are just a few of our favourite pictures from your events around the country.
