The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations extends our sincere gratitude to everyone who commemorated and spread awareness about the Great Ukrainian Famine – the Holodomor – on Holodomor Memorial Day on 23 November.
The Ukrainian-Australian diaspora and supporters gathered in major cities around the country and internationally to solemnly mark 91 years since the Holodomor, the man-made, genocidal famine orchestrated by Stalin which deliberately caused the deaths of millions of Ukrainians by starvation in 1932-33.
In the lead up to the 91st anniversary, the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies produced downloadable educational materials to inform students at various levels of accounts of the Holodomor, delving into the complexities of social justice and global events. Thank you to our churches, state hromady, and community organisations for organising vigils, prayers and commemorations to honour the victims of the Holodomor and those within our community who carry the memories of this terror.
