INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY – WOMEN IN OUR COMMUNITY AS LEADERS
The Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations (AFUO) joins in celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD).
This year’s UN theme is ‘Women in Leadership’.
AFUO recognises and celebrates women who lead in all of our community groups on this global day.
AFUO is committed to women everywhere, working towards human rights and an equal future.
We recognise the role of women in shaping Ukraine’s future – as mothers, community organisers, volunteers, military personnel, politicians, academics, artists, workers and so much more.
Ukraine pays tribute to its women leaders through the ages, such as our celebrated Lesya Ukrainka – one of Ukraine’s foremost writers and political activists.
During the 1932-33 Holodomor, a forced famine imposed on the people of Ukraine by Joseph Stalin, the Ukrainian Women’s Association in the US was the first to provide support to those starving in Ukraine.
In Australia today, the AFUO Ukrainian women’s associations work with women around the globe for a better future.
