CYM Sydney donate $100,000 to #StandWithUkraine charities and provide much needed humanitarian aid
The Ukrainian Youth Association of Sydney announced today that it will become a Diamond Patron of the Ukraine Crisis Appeal donating $80,000 to provide Humanitarian Aid to Ukraine via Rotary and Caritas Ukraine. CYM Sydney will also be providing an additional $20,000 to the CYM Global Appeal to provide humanitarian aid to CYM members in Ukraine.
President of the Ukrainian Youth Association of Sydney, Justin Senko said: “We are all watching the events of the past week with horror and disbelief. Despite this, we are all proud of how our members have united in prayer for Ukraine and participated in all the recent protests & #StandWithUkraine events around Sydney.”
When announcing the donation, he added: “Our pioneers and members spent decades advocating for a free and independent Ukraine and our members today stand as they did for Ukraine’s Sovereignty and an end to the war. In light of our organisation’s heritage and mission, this donation felt appropriate and provides meaningful non-lethal aid to our Ukrainian brothers & sisters – all who are suffering and those who are protecting our homeland & each other.”
The AFUO – Ukraine Crisis Appeal has had enormous support over the last seven days. In consideration that there are many charities concurrently raising funds to aid Ukraine and has raised to $1.2 million dollars. Whilst our compassionate community continues to support their brothers and sisters in Ukraine, the donations received from non-Ukrainians is overwhelming, as well as large donations from several corporations.
But we need to continue to increase community awareness and those in the wider Australian community to open their hearts and donate whatever they can afford.
The Russian continual ruthless attacks on military facilities, infrastructure and civilian targets have increased the humanitarian needs almost tenfold. The WHO health cluster estimates that the number of affected people has climbed from 2.9 million a week ago, to almost 20 million today. As a result of this revised estimate, the Ukraine Crisis Appeal has increased its target to $5 million AU. Your support and request for donations from your family, friends and colleagues are crucial to us reaching our Australian-Ukrainian goal.
Early this week the Ukraine Crisis Appeal released $250,000AU to Caritas Ukraine to provide food, clean water, clothing, bedding, personal hygiene items, medicine, and shelter. Subsequent tranches of another $250k of support has been authorised for release as soon as we have confirmation of the receipt of the first tranche, additional monies will be released as we closely assess the evolving needs.
We would love to hear that you have taken these few simple steps to #StandWithUkraine in prayer and action.
