On 19 January, a special meet-and-greet with one of Ukraine’s most prominent tennis stars, Marta Kostyuk, was organised in Melbourne, during her stay at the Australian Open 2025.
In attendance were representatives from the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Australia, New Zealand and Oceania – Bishop Mykola Cardinal Bychok, Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church Essendon – Very Rev Fr Bohdan Vozniak, AFUO/Future Ukraine – Jarema Polatajko, Association of Ukrainians in Victoria – Jorge Fedyszyn, CYM Melbourne – Jordan Kohut, Foundation House – Theresa Kohut, Ukrainian Education Council of Australia – УЦШР – Orysia Stefan, Ukrainian Catholic Parish Council – Anna Polatajko, and Marta’s husband, George Kyzymenko. Thank you to Sonya and Taras Moravski for organising the community meeting!
Marta and Jarema had fruitful discussions about how the AFUO/Future Ukraine can best assist and promote the Marta Kostyuk Foundation. Focused on empowering Ukrainian youth through tennis, the foundation creates pathways of accessibility, training and development for school children and aspiring young tennis athletes.
Marta and her Foundation intend to visit over 500 schools in Ukraine by 2030!
