Ukrainians and supporters welcome Nazar “Kapa”, a young Ukrainian defender, to Australia for innovative surgery in Sydney!
Nazar is only 21 years old, and yet has already braved more than most. At 18, Nazar’s city and homeland were invaded by russian soldiers, seeking to subjugate a free, democratic nation. Without hesitation, Nazar enlisted in the Ukrainian Armed Forces to defend his family, his way of life and his future.
In December 2023, Nazar was awarded a medal for the liberation of Klishiivka, Donetsk Oblast.
Recently, Nazar was injured in battle just south of Bakhmut. This is his first time leaving his homeland. He has travelled to the other side of the world – to our sunny shores – to undergo limb reconstruction surgery.

Supported by the AFUO, Nazar has addressed MPs at Parliament House and helped to auction a flag at a fundraising event for The Bluesberries’ new song “Morning Sun”.
