Victorian politician Michael Galea MP’s address to VIC Parliament on Ukraine’s reconstruction efforts in the wake of russia’s incessant attacks on civilians, following his recent trip to Ukraine.
Mr Galea testifies to the destruction he saw in a suburban district just outside of Kyiv where only a few days prior a drone strike hit an apartment block, killing 13 civilians and injuring 90.
“To see the impact of this destruction was simply harrowing on ordinary people just trying to live their lives. I had the opportunity to visit many zones which were occupied temporarily by russians at the outbreak of the full-scale invasion… where civilians were tortured, raped and killed, often killed for sport,” Mr Galea said.
Mr Galea remarked on the immeasurable reconstruction efforts; stating in some cities where 70% of buildings were damaged, you would not even know it—“which is a testament to the resilience of the Ukrainian people,” he said.
Thank you to Michael Galea MP, Julian Knysh, Ashley Awramenko, Teresa Lachowicz, Eugene Hawryszko, AFUO Board Member Chrestyna Kmetj, the Association of Ukrainians in Victoria, and the Victorian Government and Parliament for their unwavering support of Ukraine.
