Established by the United Nations in 2012, the International Day of Charity draws attention to the invaluable role of charity, donating and volunteering.
As a result of Ukrainians’ unity and immeasurable generosity to rush to the assistance of their countryfolk, charity has gained a new meaning since russia’s war on Ukraine.
- Endless hours service by volunteers to coordinate medical, humanitarian and food aid
- Self-organisation of civilians to de-occupy Ukrainian territories under siege by the enemy
- Billions of hryvnias raised to protect, rebuild and strengthen Ukraine’s infrastructure and capabilities
The international community has rushed to assist in charitable aid to Ukraine because when we see our global leaders are not doing enough, we cannot stand by idly. The resolve of philanthropists, community organisations and individuals all over the world who support Ukraine through charity, donations, volunteering and moral support are essential to Ukraine’s victory.
Our Australian-Ukrainian community has also been incredibly generous and creative in collective charitable efforts – donating proceeds from performances, art exhibitions, auctions, festivals and much more to our charities – Ukraine Crisis Appeal, Defend Ukraine Appeal and Future Ukraine. The AFUO extends our sincere gratitude for everyone’s charitable volunteering efforts in assisting Ukraine’s victory, recovery and reconstruction.
We all play this role together and will continue until Ukraine achieves victory, peace and prosperity!
