The AFUO acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the lands that our communities live on, and we pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
Today, we also celebrate and give thanks for the opportunity to live in, and belong to, this beautiful country. For those who’ve recently received their RoS 851 permanent residency visas, today is especially meaningful – congratulations on this milestone and for taking this big step!
We recognise that January 26 holds different meanings for many Australians. For many, it’s a day of celebration, while for others, it’s a time to reflect on our nation’s history, including the experiences of Indigenous Australians.
Our friends at SBS Ukrainian have prepared educational podcasts about these issues. You can listen to them here: https://tinyurl.com/24vhvr6v and https://tinyurl.com/bdzyft25.
As a diverse and growing diaspora, let’s embrace the opportunity to connect, learn, and support one another, while respecting the rich, complex fabric of Australian culture and history.
Whether you’re celebrating or reflecting, we wish you a day filled with gratitude and hope for the future. Together, we can create a strong, inclusive Australia for everyone.
