For Berlin-based Ukrainian singer Ganna Gryniva – aka GANNA – old folk songs from her homeland are a matter close to her heart and a true musical treasure trove.
Her critically acclaimed 2022 album “Home” (with GANNA Ensemble) created a sensation, with emotionally charged, jazz-tinged arrangements.
Ganna’s 2023 album “Kupala” experimented with loops, samples and other effects, with a more electronic flare. Here, too, she combines different sensory worlds from jazz to Ukrainian folk to experimental music, and always with a strong connection to themes of the Ukrainian singing tradition – love and sadness, and the connection between everyday life and nature.
“The levels of talent – even wizardry – which run through her (…) are extraordinary.” London Jazz News, UK
“One of the most impressive singers and musicians on the European jazz and world music scene.” Ö1 radio, Austria
“One of the best albums of the year with a conscious desire to get rid of all words for the sake of the ineffable.” Varianty magazine, Ukraine
