In September 2024 the AFUO, Ukraine Crisis Appeal, and Rotary Australia Community Service were among the sponsors of the Friends of Radiology in Ukraine – Друзі Радіології в Україні conference held in Lviv.
Through funding raised by generous donations to the Ukraine Crisis Appeal and our staunch allies at GE Healthcare ANZ we were able to purchase 20 Vscan Air mobile ultrasound units at $90,970 AUD (actual value $120,000).
Dr Andrew Dobrotwir, Specialist Radiologist and Teresa Lachowicz, AFUO Ukraine Aid Coordinator and Ukraine Crisis Appeal committee member, were invited to take part in the Friends of Radiology in Ukraine conference in Lviv, Ukraine. They personally delivered this life-saving equipment to hospitals across Ukraine with Dr. Dobrotwir providing hands-on training to the radiologists in their proper use.
They also toured the state-of-the-art Superhumans Center, which provides prosthesis, psychological and moral rehabilitative support to wounded veterans in an environment brimming with life and positivity.
These visits to Ukraine provide invaluable logistical information through links with Rotary Club Ukraine Unity. The Ukraine Crisis Appeal has sent two 40 ft shipping containers full of life saving equipment from Australia to Ukraine to our on-the-ground partners for distribution across Ukraine. Through this trusting partnership we know with certainty where each item ends up and that our aid is without doubt improving, and saving, the lives of Ukrainians.
The UCA’s third container of aid is due to sail from Melbourne to Ukraine at the end of November.
