Late last year the AFUO launched #CampaignForUkraine. Hundreds of people emailed their local MPs, urging them to call on the Commonwealth Government to increase military aid to Ukraine.
The AFUO and state hromady also conducted many meetings with key federal and state political leaders between 2022-2024 to advocate for a permanent residency option for displaced Ukrainians in Australia.
Thanks to tireless advocacy from our community leaders and members, Australian supporters and key visitors from Ukraine, the Government answered our calls. 49 decommissioned M1A1 Abrams tanks are on their way to the Ukrainian frontline, 14 rigid hull boats have been gifted to boost Ukraine’s maritime defences, and displaced Ukrainians in Australia have been offered a permanent residency option.
These Government decisions were made with broad, cross-party support – deeply heartening for our community!
