The Chornobyl disaster, 39 years ago today (26 April), was not just the worst nuclear disaster in history — it was the result of the repressive Soviet regime negligence.

Without warning or prompt evacuation, millions were exposed to radiation in the 200,000 km² that was contaminated. The lives and health of workers were sacrificed to clean up the Soviet negligence.
Today, russia echoes the same recklessness: bombing Chornobyl nuclear plant, occupying the biggest nuclear plant in Europe in Zaporizhzhia, risking nuclear catastrophe once more.
History demands we remember — and act.
